Pittsburgh, 34-point underdogs, gave No. 2 Penn State a scare for the second consecutive year. Travis Forney kicked a tiebreaking 24-yard field goal with 1:20 left and LaVar Arrington blocked a 52-yard field goal with 4 seconds remaining to preserve the victory. Game story. |

Travis Prentice carried 29 times for 163 yards, but it was not nearly enough, as West Virginia, after trailing briefly, ran off 10 third-quarter points to break open a close game. WV's Avon Cobourne gained 142 yards and Marc Bulger threw for three TDs.

After watching the Hokies jump out to a 17-point lead to start the game, the Blazers pulled to within a touchdown at the half, but were shutout the rest of the way. Playing without starting QB Michael Vick, the Hokies resorted to some trickery, using a 35-yard halfback pass from Andre Kendrick to Andre Davis to avoid the upset. |

Senior running back Frank Murphy came off the bench to run for 149 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns in the 17th-ranked Wildcats' 40-0 rout of hapless Temple. Murphy had scoring runs of 31 and seven yards to key a 23-point second quarter for Kansas State.

Jeremy Jones set the tone by returning a blocked punt 11 yards for a score just over a minute into the game, as the Longhorns got out to a 28-3 first-quarter lead and cruised to a 38-21 victory over Rutgers (0-2) in Piscataway, N.J.. Major Applewhite threw two touchdown passes (28 and 21 yards) for Texas (2-1). |

Syracuse wide receiver Quinton Spotwood caught six passes for 135 yards, including a 56-yarder from sophomore QB Tony Nunes which staked the Orangemen to a 17-0 first-quarter lead. Nunes completed eight of 13 passes for 170 yards. |
