West Virginia 43, Miami (Ohio) 27

No. 11 Virginia Tech 31, Alabama-Birmingham 10
After watching the Hokies jump out to a 17-point lead to start the game, the Blazers pulled to within a touchdown at the half, but were shutout the rest of the way. No. 17 Kansas State 40, Temple 0
Senior running back Frank Murphy came off the bench to run for 149 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns in the 17th-ranked Wildcats' 40-0 rout of hapless Temple. Murphy had scoring runs of 31 and seven yards to key a 23-point second quarter for Kansas State.
Texas 38, Rutgers 21
Jeremy Jones set the tone by returning a blocked punt 11 yards for a score just over a minute into the game, as the Longhorns got out to a 28-3 first-quarter lead and cruised to a 38-21 victory over Rutgers (0-2) in Piscataway, N.J.. Major Applewhite threw two touchdown passes (28 and 21 yards) for Texas (2-1).
Syracuse 47, Central Michigan 7
Syracuse wide receiver Quinton Spotwood caught six passes for 135 yards, including a 56-yarder from sophomore QB Tony Nunes which staked the Orangemen to a 17-0 first-quarter lead. Nunes completed eight of 13 passes for 170 yards.
