(Rankings reflect BCS Poll) | Bowl schedule

Sugar Bowl, New Orleans, Jan. 4, 8 p.m. ET

Matchup: No. 1 Florida State (11-0) vs. No. 2 Virginia Tech (11-0)

It's the Sugar Bowl's turn in the four-year bowl rotation to provide the center stage for college football. The Bowl Championship Series in general and the Sugar Bowl in particular have lucked out with the prime matchup of the only two undefeated teams from power conferences.

Last year, the Fiesta Bowl had to settle for 12-0 Tennessee vs. 11-1 Florida State. And there's no guarantees in the future that the national title game will be quite so clean and neat with two obvious teams. But this year, it worked.

Rose Bowl, Pasadena, Jan. 1, 5 p.m. ET

Matchup: No. 7 Wisconsin (9-2) vs. Stanford (8-3)
Rose Bowl history is filled with apparent mismatches like this one … such as the last two times Stanford has been to Pasadena on New Year's Day: 1970 and 1971, when heavily favored Michigan and Ohio State were beaten.

Orange Bowl, Miami, Jan. 1, 8 p.m. ET

Matchup: No. 4 Alabama vs. No. 8 Michigan
These teams played the two toughest schedules in America, and now hope to use the Orange Bowl as a springboard to … the Orange Bowl. Next year, this is the biggest of all bowl games.

Fiesta Bowl, Tempe, Jan. 2, 7:30 p.m. ET

Matchup: No. 3 Nebraska vs. No. 5 Tennessee
These teams have accounted for four of the past five national championships, so they know how to play big games. And make no mistake, when the Huskers and Vols go at it, it's a big game.
