ACC Game of the Week

Florida State 42, N.C. State 11
Sebastian Janikowski kicked five field goals and Florida State forced six turnovers as the top-ranked Seminoles rolled to a key win on their way to their eighth straight ACC title.

Janikowski, whose 27 field goals last year was two short of an NCAA record, has nine field goals in the first three games for Florida State (3-0 overall, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference). He also kicked five last year against Maryland. The Seminoles are 56-2 in league games since joining the ACC.

North Carolina State (3-1, 0-1) upset the Seminoles 24-7 last year behind quarterback Jamie Barnette. But on Saturday, Barnette had four passes intercepted, one returned 47 yards for a touchdown by Abdual Howard, and lost a fumble in his own end zone that Jamal Reynolds recovered to increase Florida State's lead to 32-11. Janikowski, a left-footed junior, kicked field goals of 30, 47, 22 and 31 yards.

Other ACC action

No. 12 Georgia Tech 41, Central Florida 10
Joe Hamilton rushed for a career-best 100 yards and two touchdowns, passed for 161 yards and a score and guided the No. 12 Yellow Jackets to a 41-10 rout of Central Florida. Sean Gregory, Tech's third-string tailback a week ago, made his first college start because of injuries and rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns.

The Yellow Jackets (2-1) piled up 318 yards on the ground against Central Florida (0-3), the second time this season they have surpassed 300 yards.

Virginia 41, Wake Forest 7
Thomas Jones ran for 164 yards and three touchdowns and QB Dan Ellis finally played like he was expected to as the Cavaliers bounced back from a humbling loss at Clemson with a big victory at home. It was the 16th consecutive victory against Wake Forest for the Cavaliers (2-1). Wake Forest (1-1, 0-1) hasn't beaten Virginia since 1983.

Ellis, who struggled in his first two games, seemed to build confidence with a series of short passes early and finished 19-for-25 for 220 yards.

Northwestern 15, Duke 12, ot
Northwestern's Nick Kreinbrink hit Sam Simmons for a 27-yard scoring pass in overtime to pull out a 15-12 victory. Duke (0-2) had taken a 12-9 lead in the extra period on Sims Lenhardt's fourth field goal of the game. But then Kreinbrink pump-faked the Duke defense and connected with Simmons to lift the Wildcats to 2-1. Duke has not scored a touchdown in coach Carl Franks' first two games.
Maryland 33, West Virginia 0
LaMont Jordan ran for a career-high 164 yards and unbeaten Maryland (3-0) is off to its best start in four years. It's painfully obvious that this year's West Virginia football team isn't nearly as good as the one that made its third straight postseason appearance last year. That doesn't make this blowout defeat any easier to take for the Mountaineers (1-2).
