Oct. 7, 1999
This year's group of outside linebackers features several blue chip players who may hold the key to the national title in their big-play ability.
Penn State's LaVar Arrington has the ability to take over and dominate games and has several key games scheduled over the second half of the season which will present an opportunity for him to shine in big-game situations. He could be a factor in the Heisman Trophy race with an impressive close to the '99 season. Michigan CB Charles Woodson set the precedent for defenders in the Heisman race two years ago when he won the coveted award in an incredible display of defensive play.
Corey Moore has been the catalyst for the Hokies of Virginia Tech to field one of the toughest defenses in the nation over the first half of the year. His ability to come off the corner as an edge pass rusher has harassed every opposing passer this season. The Hokies are in a position to run the table this season and receive a bid to the Sugar Bowl which matches the No.1 vs. the No. 2 clubs for the national title.
