Big East Game of the Week

No. 23 Miami 31, Boston College 28
Fifteen years after losing to Boston College on Doug Flutie's epic heave, the Hurricanes mounted a miracle of their own, rallying from a 28-point, third-quarter deficit, and winning the game on Andy Crosland's 30-yard field goal with 3 seconds left. Kenny Kelly led Miami to four touchdowns in 13:20, tying the game with 3:51 left on a 10-yard pass to Daniel Franks … and setting up the winning field goal by hitting Reggie Wayne for 22 yards on a fourth-and-17 play from the BC 35 with 14 seconds to play.

Miami (3-3, 1-0 Big East) beat Boston College for the 10th consecutive time. The Eagles (5-2, 2-2) have come close at home the past three times but have not beaten Miami since Flutie heaved a 48-yard pass to Gerard Phelan in 1984 to win a 47-45 shootout.

Kelly, who threw for just 94 yards in the first three quarters, completed 20-of-36 for 218 yards and three touchdowns in all. Cedric Washington ran for a career-high 183 yards for Boston College, and he also recovered a fumble to help put Miami in a 28-0 hole. But it was all Hurricanes after that, as Miami scored three touchdowns in eight minutes, as Kelly hit Will McPartland and James Jackson for scores, and defensive end William Joseph recovered a Washington fumble to set up another Miami TD.

Other Big East action

Pittsburgh 38, Rutgers 15
In his first start since regaining the starting job, David Priestly passed for four touchdowns, and DeMond Gibson ran an interception back for a score, as the Panthers dominated. Pitt (4-3, 2-1) scored 24 second-quarter points, and led 31-0 before Rutgers (0-7, 0-4) got on the board with QB Chad Schwenk scoring in the third quarter on a long pass and a short run.
West Virginia 20, Temple 17
Jay Taylor's 32-yard field goal with six seconds left lifted the Mountaineers to their second victory in a row. Problem is, the wins have been over Rutgers and Temple … and West Virginia (3-4, 2-1 Big East) has to play Miami and Virginia Tech over the next two weeks. Temple (1-6, 1-2) lost to the Mountaineers for the ninth straight time.
