Independents Game of the Week
|
Louisiana Tech 46, Central Florida 35 |
|
A 16-point outburst in the second quarter proved enough for Louisiana Tech to build a sizable cushion and keep the Golden Knights at bay all evening. Tim Rattay, in his second game back after suffering an ankle injury Sept. 18, threw five TD passes, with two each going to Sean Cangelosi (50 and 6 yards) and David Newman (12 and 5). UCF pulled to within three points in the fourth quarter, 38-35, but Rattay answered, leading the Bulldogs on a drive that ultimately netted a 1-yard TD run by Arthur Jefferson.
Omari Howard scored a pair of TDs for the Golden Knights (2-5), who suffered their first loss of the year to a team not in a BCS conference. LATech, meanwhile, moves to 5-2 and is heading into a three game stint against soft opposition -- Toledo, Louisiana-Monroe and Alabama-Birmingham. |
Other Independents action

Akron 35, Navy 29 |
Looking for their fourth straight win, things didn't look good for the Zips (6-2, 4-1 MAC) early. Navy (2-5) jumped out to a 26-0 lead early in the second quarter, but from then on, couldn't slow the Zips. QB James Washington broke the tension for Akron, finding Lavel Bailey on a 41-yard scoring pass. Still, it took three unanswered fourth-quarter TDs for the Zips to pull out the win. Brandon Payne did the bulk of the damage, scoring on a 6-yard run and a 66-yard punt return in the crucial quarter. Jimmie Gray scored on an 11-yard run with 6:52 remaining to give the Zips their only lead of the game.

La.-Monroe 31, La-Lafayette 7 |
|
Louisiana-Monroe got a pair of 2-yard TD runs from Michael Mitchell and a 47-yard Pat Dennis punt return for a score to turn a close game into a comfortable win. The win was the first of the year for Monroe (3-5) over a Division I-A team, while Lafayette (1-7) returned to their offensive coma after coming to life briefly, scoring 32 points in a loss to Tulane last week.
