WAC Game of the Week
Fresno State 47, Rice 18 |
In a battle for the top spot in the WAC, Fresno State scored 20 first-quarter points and won going away, handing Rice its second straight loss after the Owls had won five straight. Billy Volek threw and ran for a first quarter TD, and the Bulldogs also got on the board with a 49-yard halfback pass from Rodney Wright to Saleem Mahdi. Rice rallied but could get no closer than 13 points the rest of the way. Fresno State (7-3, 4-1) plays at Hawaii next week. A win would clinch the conference title. Rice (5-5, 4-2), meanwhile, will try to become bowl eligible, facing UTEP in Houston. |
Other WAC action
Hawaii 62, San Jose State 41 |
A year after their failed to win a game, the Rainbows moved a win away from a bowl date by riding Dan Robinson's arm and legs over the Spartans. Robinson threw for four TDs and ran for another as Hawaii built a 35-7 lead after three quarters. San Jose State outscored the Rainbows in a wild fourth quarter, 34-27, but it was too little, too late. If Hawaii wins one of its last three games, it will be invited to a bowl. Fresno State, Navy and Washington State remain for the Bows. All three games will be played in Honolulu.
