Big West roundup
Big West Game of the Week
Boise State 45, New Mexico State 26 |
Boise State QB Bart Hendricks had another fine day and the Broncos (8-3, 4-1) put themselves in position to represent the Big West in the Humanitarian Bowl with a win next week against Idaho in Pullman, Wash. Hendricks threw for three TDs and ran for two more as the Broncos remained perfect in seven games in Bronco Stadium. After starting the season 1-2, the Broncos have now won four in a row and seven of their last eight. New Mexico State (5-5, 2-2) kept it close most of the afternoon, but two fourth-quarter BSU TDs put an end to the Aggies' bowl hopes. |
Other Big West action
Idaho 33, Montana 30 |
Montana, ranked No. 4 in the Division I-AA ranks, gave Idaho all it could handle in a matchup of former Big Sky Conference rivals. Idaho (7-3, 4-1) will try to win its second straight Big West title when it hosts Boise State next week in Pullman, Wash. The winner of the game will represent the conference in the Humanitarian Bowl.

Texas Christian 27, North Texas 3 |
Coming off a bye week, Texas Christian (5-3, 3-1) ran into offense-poor North Texas (2-7, 1-3) and reaped the benefits, giving up a first-quarter field goal and nothing else. Casey Printers threw for three touchdowns for the Horned Frogs, who put the game away with a 10-point third quarter after leading just 10-3 at halftime.

Arkansas State 44, Nevada 28 |
This is getting depressing. Just when it seemed like the indignities had to be coming to an end for Nevada (3-7, 2-3), the once-proud Wolf Pack went into Jonesboro and were slapped silly by the Indians (4-7, 2-3), a team coming off a 63-10 loss to Boise State. With a loss to Utah State next week, Nevada, considered the standard bearer for football excellence in the Big West Conference for the better part of the decade, could finish in last place in its final year before moving into the WAC.
For the Indians, the victory allowed them to end the season on a considerable high. ASU running back Jonathan Adams banked a pair of scoring runs, while QB Cleo Lemon connected with Jacquis Walker for a pair of TDs. After opening the season 1-6, the Indians won three of their last four.
