Mountain West Game of the Week

Wyoming 33, No. 15 Brigham Young 17
Jay Stoner passed for 297 yards and three touchdowns to lead Wyoming to the upset. The loss was the first in the Mountain West Conference for BYU (8-2, 5-1 MWC) and prevented the Cougars from clinching the outright title. Wyoming (6-3, 3-2) led nearly the entire game and kept alive hopes for a share of the championship and a trip to the Liberty Bowl.

BYU can wrap up the title against Utah next Saturday. Stoner's 22-yard touchdown pass to Kofi Shuck with 12 seconds left in the third quarter broke the game open and Tim Beasley added a 14-yard scoring run with 9:12 remaining to boost the lead to 31-10.

Other MWC action

Air Force 35, UNLV 16
Facing the 104th ranked rushing defense in the nation, Air Force built a 35-7 lead before settling and for the easy victory. Four different Air Force players scored rushing TDs, with Scott McKay's 40-yarder coming as the longest. Now rotating at QB with Cale Bonds, Mike Thiessen contributed a scoring pass to the offensive effort, hitting Ken Chandler for a 29-yard TD.
Utah 52, New Mexico 7
The Utes didn't have starting QB Darnell Arceneaux, and they didn't have a problem with New Mexico. That was thanks largely to backup QB T.D. Croshaw, appropriately named on a day when he threw four scoring passes against the Lobos. Each of Croshaw's TDs was to a different receiver, with Scott Price, Boo Bendinger, Mike Anderson and Donny Utu all getting in on the act. Stevonne Smith shared the spotlight with Croshaw, taking successive punts the distance for touchdowns. His 70-yard return put the Utes up 21-7 while his 52 yarder made it 28-7.
