The Ottawa Senators came home for Game 3 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinals series against Toronto desperately needing a victory and a big game from their goaltender, Tom Barrasso. The veteran netminder didn't let his teammates down on Monday, turning back 33 shots to lead Ottawa to a 4-3 victory. Barrasso was particularly sharp in the first period when the Leafs came out flying, keeping Toronto off the scoreboard by stopping 10 shots, and in the third when the Leafs mounted a frantic attempt at a comeback.

Jan Hrdina, C, Pittsburgh Penguins

Jan Hrdina had to leave Game 3 of his team's Eastern quarterfinals series against Washington early in the third period with a minor injury, but not before he helped do some more major damage to the Capitals season. Hrdina scored two goals in Pittsburgh's 4-3 victory, giving him four in the series which the Penguins could sweep with one more victory. Hrdina now as many goals in the series as the entire Capitals team.

Chris Osgood, G, Detroit Red Wings

Chris Osgood faced only 22 shots Monday night, but was forced to make big stops at several key junctures during the game. Osgood came up very big on Ziggy Palffy and Josef Stumpel in the second period when Detroit led only one nothing and in the third period, after Los Angeles cut the deficit to 2-1, Osgood somehow managed to get his right leg out to rob Brad Chartrand from point-blank range. Because of the play of their netminder, the Red Wings now hold a commanding 3-0 lead in the series with the Kings.

Adam Deadmarsh, RW,
Colorado Avalanche

The Coyotes big guns -- Jeremy Roenick and Keith Tkachuk -- got somewhat untracked in Game 3 against Colorado on Monday night, each scoring their first goal of the series. Unfortunately for hometown Phoenix, the Avalanche had a big gun of their own, Adam Deadmarsh, ready to answer each time. Deadmarsh assisted on Shjon Podein tying goal in the second period and then helped set up the go-ahead marker by Joe Sakic before the middle frame ended. After Roenick tied things again at 6:17 of the third period, Deadmarsh came back 29 seconds later and put home the winner.

Owen Nolan, RW,
San Jose Sharks

The Sharks lobbied hard for Owen Nolan to be this year's MVP award winner, a prospect that seems unlikely even though the burly right winger scored 44 goals, the second highest total in the league this season. Nolan's chances have no doubt been hurt by the mediocre season his team had, but in the post-season, San Jose has been stunning the hockey world by leading in their series with the powerful St. Louis Blues. The Sharks took a 2-1 lead in the series by winning Game 3 by that score Monday night, and Nolan once again led the way by scoring both goals for San Jose.
