Bill Guerin, RW, Edmonton Oilers

If all it took to win was a player who was way above anyone else that night, the Edmonton Oilers would have done pretty well Tuesday against Dallas. Unfortunately, Bill Guerin's superlative performance wasn't enough to prevent the Stars from taking a 3-1 series lead. Guerin scored three goals for Edmonton, one on a tip-in, one on a slapshot and one a great individual effort. The highlight-reel goal started when Guerin took a pinpoint lead pass from Janne Niinimaa on the fly at the Stars blueline. Guerin split the defense and lifted a backhand over Ed Belfour, drawing Edmonton even at that point in the game.

Stu Barnes, C, Buffalo Sabres

Many Florida Panthers fans believe the team that went to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1996 was ruined when it traded away Stu Barnes early in the following season. Barnes' value to a team goes beyond what he contributes on the ice, but he still manages to come up with key goals, particularly during the playoffs. The Sabres center did it again Tuesday, scoring in overtime while he was off balance. That gave the Sabres a victory that kept them from being eliminated.

Brian Raflaski, D, New Jersey Devils

Rookie Brian Rafalski can take pride in being part of a suffocating New Jersey defensive scheme that kept Florida to only seven shots over the first two periods, including only one in the second. But Rafalski can also brag about a big night offensively, which is saying a great deal in this low-scoring quarterfinals series. In the second period, Rafalski made a neat pass to Alexander Mogilny, who scored tying the game. In the third period, Rafalski let loose a one-timed slapshot from the point after Bobby Holik won the draw, and beat Mike Vernon for the winning goal
