The rookie continues to raise the level of his game when it counts most, and Sunday, he was the offensive trigger that enabled St. Louis to force a deciding Game 7 at home. Hecht scored his fourth goal of the series against San Jose and assisted on two more to lead the Blues to a 6-2 victory. The first two goals Hecht was involved in were the keys. Hecht re-directed a Pierre Turgeon pass in the first period to Scott Young, who scored into a wide-open net. It was the first goal of the game and came after San Jose had been unable to score despite sustained offensive pressure for the first 12 minutes of the game. In the second period, Hecht sealed the Sharks fate when he did a pirouette with another Turgeon pass and slid the puck past Steve Shields to make it 3-0.

The San Jose Sharks fought back hard in the third period of Friday night's loss in St. Louis and were expected to try to carry that momentum on Sunday. San Jose got off to a flying start, taking the play to St. Louis and creating several good scoring chances for much of the first period. But they couldn't beat Blues goaltender Roman Turek, who kept his team in the game and made several great saves in the first 10 minutes against Vincent Damphousse, Brad Stuart and Mike Ricci. Turek ended up with 25 saves, and wasn't scored upon until his team had a 6-0 lead late in the second period.

Scott Young, RW, St. Louis Blues

Scott Young is a steady scorer who doesn't get that much recognition for his offense. That might change after his effort Sunday. Young scored three goals to lead St. Louis to a 6-2 blowout of the Sharks and force a deciding Game 7 on Tuesday. Young also scored Friday and now has five goals in the series. Playing on a line with center Pierre Turgeon and left wing Jochen Hecht, Young helped the trio post a combined plus-8 for the game.
