Playing for the Dallas Stars, goaltender Ed Belfour gets a lot of defensive help from his teammates. He faced just 19 shots Sunday, but three of them came in the final 50 seconds of the game when San Jose had a two-man advantage and was pressing for a tie. Belfour made a game-saving glove save on Gary Suter's screened shot from the point and then made another big kick save on Jeff Friesen's blast. Despite a frantic effort by the Sharks at the end, Belfour recorded his second consecutive of this series and extended his shutout streak to 128 minutes, 53 seconds.

Mike Modano, C, Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars do not give other teams many chances to score, and they don't get many chances of their own either. But Dallas makes the most of what it gets as Mike Modano showed. Modano had a big game for Dallas playing nearly 24 minutes, many of them late in the third period when the game was on the line. At 7:26 of the first period, Modano charged in to grab a long rebound Sharks goalie Steve Shields allowed on Brett Hull's shot and fired it home for the winner. It was Modano's team-leading fourth goal of the playoffs, and the 36th playoff goal of his career, a franchise record.
