Nobody came close to even containing the league MVP this season. He led the league in scoring (29.7 points a game) and field-goal percentage (.574) and was second in rebounding (13.6). The production has remained about the same in the playoffs, though the free-throw shooting dipped from 52.4 percent to 46.2 percent. The 300-pound Lithuanian is the rare big-guy talent who can batter down low or hammer in the 3-pointer. The 35-year old is on the downside of an outstanding international career but is still one of the top options for the Blazers on offense, a guy that attracts double teams in the lane and is able to make the spectacular pass to the open perimeter players.
Breakdown: Sabonis has the girth to body up with Shaq in the paint, but that's only if he's not left in the dust by the speedy Lakers giant. The Blazers 300-pounder isn't going to win any sprints but he will be the greatest challenge Shaq has faced in the playoffs, the first to make him work on the defensive end, where Sabonis is an excellent passer, unfurls a slo-mo side-hook and is capable of burying 3-pointers.
