Interference is a minor penalty and is called for the following infractions. Impeding the progress of an opponent not in possession of the puck. Restraining an opponent attempting a forecheck. Checking a defensive player not in possession of the puck. Forcing an opponent not in possession of the puck to go offside, causing a stoppage in play. Deliberately knocking the stick out of an opponent's hand or preventing an opponent who has dropped his stick or other equipment from regaining possession of it. Shooting a broken stick or other debris at an opponent and causing him to be distracted by it. Impeding the progress of an opponent or the puck while on the bench.
