1995: AP preseason, postseason college football rankings
Best climber: Kansas State, unranked to No. 7
Even after two consecutive seasons of nine victories, Kansas State was having a difficult time making believers. All the Wildcats did then -- and continue to do -- was win. They went 10-2, smashing Colorado State 54-21 in the Holiday Bowl, and grooming defensive back Chris Canty and receiver Kevin Lockett for the NFL.
Taking a dive: Oklahoma, No. 15 to unranked
Auburn (6 to 22) and Alabama (10 to 21) both fell further numerically, but at least stayed in the Top 25. The Sooners get special mention for the failed Howard Schnellenberger experiment -- a one-season flameout that begat the losing John Blake era. Oklahoma went 5-5-1 and was shut out in its last two games by Oklahoma State and Nebraska.
