DRIVERS TO WATCH Jeff Burton -- Better results lately after a poor start to the season; finished outside the top-15 in the season's first seven races; after winning the Coca-Cola 600 at the end of May, he's put together four top-10 finishes which lifted him from 21st to 14th in the standings; missed a top-10 with an 11th place finish at Loudon last Sunday; had a good car in this race last year but came home .126 seconds behind winner Rusty Wallace; finished 10th on June 17 in the Pocono 500. Dale Earnhardt Jr. -- Had a good run at the track in June, leading 11 laps before a poorly-timed pit stop for fuel pushed him one lap behind the leaders and eventually a 20th place finish; last July he was 13th in the Pennsylvania 500; up to eighth in the Winston Cup standings following victory of the Pepsi 400 at Daytona where his legendary father was killed in an accident in February; Dale Jr. also has a pole this season, four top-five finishes and eight top-10s. Bill Elliott -- Along with Rusty Wallace, tops the win chart at Pocono with five victories apiece; four of his wins were recorded in this race; only one top-five finish this year and four top-10s; stands 16th in the points. Jeff Gordon -- Is tied with Dale Jarrett at the top of the Winston Cup standings with 2,695 points, but Jarrett is first after taking the New England 300 for his fourth win of the year; Gordon has three; took third in this race last year but has finished first or second in eight of the last 12 races at Pocono including runner-up to Ricky Rudd here in June; tops the board on laps led with 1,402 and is also first in money earned with more than $4.3 million. Dale Jarrett -- Passed teammate Ricky Rudd with less than three laps to run and captured the New England 300 for his series leading fourth win and 28th of career; took the Winston Cup lead with his fourth win although is tied with Gordon at 2,695 points each; finished fourth in the Pennsylvania 500 last year and was second the previous time; won this race in 1995 and 1997; in June's Pocono 500 he came home third behind Rudd and Gordon; has led 388 laps in 19 races. Bobby Labonte -- In 1999 he became the first racer to sweep both races at Pocono since Tim Richmond in 1986; last year he was sixth in this event and in June placed eighth; without victory this year, but has finished in the top-eighth in four of the last five races; is ninth in the standings, 20 points behind Dale Earnhardt Jr. Terry Labonte -- Winner of two races at Pocono Raceway, with both in the Pocono 500 in 1995 and 1989; his win in 1995 came from the 27th starting position, the farthest back of any wins at Pocono. Mark Martin -- This will be his 28th appearance at Pocono where he continues to look for his win; finished fifth in June; top results of the year was fourth in the Coca-Cola 600 and Talladega 500; up to 12th in the standings, 19 points out of the top 10. Jeremy Mayfield -- In 1998 won his first career race at Pocono Raceway; in June 2000 he won the Pocono 500; poor performances recently, with finishes of 30th or lower in four of the last five races; was 10th in the Pennsylvania 500 last year. Ricky Rudd -- His Pocono 500 victory at the track on June 17, snapped an 88-race winless streak; would like nothing more than to repeat that performance, particularly as he is only 28 points out of first place in the standings behind Dale Jarrett and Jeff Gordon; appeared to head for victory at Loudon on Sunday, but was burned by a late yellow flag and was past on the restart by teammate Jarrett and finished third for the second consecutive race; has not finished lower than 14th in 12 consecutive races and leads the series with 14 top-10s. Tony Stewart -- This will be his sixth race at Pocono Raceway in the Winston Cup; top finish was fourth in this race in July 1999; in three Pocono 500 appearances he was sixth two times and seventh last month; comes off a fourth place finish at Loudon after two disappointing results at Daytona and Chicago; fourth in the Winston Cup, more than 240 points behind the top three. Rusty Wallace -- Defending champion of the Pennsylvania 500 when he held off Jeff Burton; four of his 54 career wins were recorded at this speedway; one of two active drivers (Bill Elliott) with four wins at Pocono; one win this year was in April at California Speedway; worst finish of the year was on Sunday at Loudon when his engine quit after just 11 laps of competition to go home 43rd.
