When Roy Williams arrived at the University of Texas as a talented wide receiver out of Odessa Permian, he had a dilemma. He couldn't don the No. 18 he wore in high school, or the No. 26 his older brother, former Texas Tech All- American Lloyd Hill, wore because both numbers were taken. So he took No. 4. Why? Lloyd's daughter Chasiddy was 4 years old. "She says, 'I'm 4 and Uncle Roy is 4'," Hill said. It is a feel good kind of thing. With one fundamental flaw. In January, Chasiddy turned 5. As dilemmas go, it's nothing dire, certainly nowhere near as grave as the on-field problems created by a 6-5, 210-pound sophomore who can run a 10.3 100-meters, high jump 6 feet 10 inches, long jump 25-6 and can adjust to deep balls as if he had radar and has caught fade routes behind his back. To exploit those talents, offensive coordinator Greg Davis worked with him on his route running in the spring. "Little things can create more room after the catch," Davis said. Williams is a unique blend of inspiration and perspiration. He won the long jump, took second in the high jump and third in the 100-meters at the Texas high school state meet -- wearing fuzzy gorilla slippers between events. In ninth grade, he showed up for the team trip dressed in a black and orange football jersey, blue and white baseball pants, and two socks -- one red, one orange. It was his favorite outfit. In third grade. "Different," his mother, Chris Hill, volunteered. "He's just like that." It's a good different. Asked if there's anybody like him, Texas cornerback Quentin Jammer doesn't hesitate. "Other than Randy Moss?" Jammer said. "Nope." Williams will likely be a top pick in the NFL draft after his junior year -- if he doesn't challenge it after this year. "Next year ... I don't know," Williams said. "I don't think about the NFL."
