NFL The league has decided to call off this weekend's games. A decision on whether the games will be canceled or played at another date is expected to come sometime next week. More details...
Baseball Major League Baseball postponed all games (91) Tuesday through Sunday. The International, Pacific Coast, Eastern, Southern, California, Midwest, Florida State, and New York-Penn leagues canceled the remainder of their championship series. Other leagues still in playoffs postponed games through Thursday. More details...
College Football All Division I-A games scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday were postponed. Four games were canceled: Navy at Northwestern, Marshall at TCU, Bowling Green at South Carolina, and Appalachian State at Troy State. NBA The NBA has canceled exhibition games that were scheduled for Sept. 16 in China and Sept. 19 in Taiwan. Both games were part of the league's Nike World Tour. In addition, a charity game planned for Sunday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City has been canceled. More details...
NHL The NHL has canceled the 23 preseason games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. More details...
Auto Racing NASCAR postponed the New Hampshire 300 and the Craftsman Trucks Silverado 350 in Fort Worth, Texas scheduled for Sunday. NASCAR also canceled the Featherlite Modified Tour and Busch North Series races in Loudon, N.H. and the Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series in Idaho all scheduled for Saturday. The IRL Chevy 500 in Fort Worth, Texas scheduled for Sunday was postponed. NHRA postponed the Keystone Nationals in Reading, Pa., until Oct. 4-7. More details...
Golf The 34th Ryder Cup matches, scheduled to be played at The De Vere Belfry, Sutton Coldfield, England, from Sept. 28-30, 2001, have been postponed to September 2002. More details...
All four PGA Tour-sanctioned events, the American Express Championship, Tampa Bay Classic, Vantage Championship and Buy.com Oregon Classic, were canceled. More details...

Boxing The middleweight championship fight between Felix Trinidad and Bernard Hopkins, which was originally scheduled for Saturday at Madison Square Garden, has been postponed. No new date is officially set. More details...
Soccer Major League Soccer canceled the final 10 games of the regular season which were scheduled over Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. A-League playoff games scheduled for this week were postponed. In Europe, 40 UEFA Cup games scheduled for Thursday were postponed. More details...
In Columbus, Ohio, the U.S. Women's World Cup doubleheader involving the United States against Japan and Germany vs. China was canceled. The U.S. vs. China match scheduled for Sunday was also canceled. More details...
Horse Racing The Thoroughbred Racing Association canceled all its cards Tuesday, and Wednesday's racing was called off at Arlington Park, Pimlico Race Course and Turfway Park. Belmont Park and Yonkers Raceway, both in New York, called off their cards through Sunday.
Olympics Officials vow the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics will go on as planned from Feb. 8-24, 2002, but security will be completely re-evaluated. More details...
Tennis The Davis Cup match between the United States and India, originally scheduled for Sept. 21-23 in Winston-Salem, N.C., has been postponed until October. The BNP Paribas Masters of the Champion's Tour, the season-end championship, scheduled for Sept. 18-23 in New York, was postponed. Six Intercollegiate Tennis Association-sanctioned tennis tournaments scheduled for Sept. 14-16 were postponed. The host schools were: NC State; Cornell; Arkansas; Rice; South Florida and Penn State. Also, tournament officials called off play Friday in the Gelsor Open to observe a day of mourning in Romania for the victims of the terrorist attacks in the United States. More details...
Other college sports The Atlantic Coast Conference postponed all events through Thursday. The Big West Conference postponed all events through Thursday and any events involving air travel through Saturday. The Mid-American postponed all conference competition through Saturday. The Big East, Metro Atlantic Athletic, Pac-10 postponed all conference competition through the weekend.
Other international events The Canadian Football League called off all games scheduled for this weekend. Details on possible makeups will be announced when they become available. ... The ICF Slalom World Championships, scheduled for Sept. 20-23 on the Ocoee (Tenn.) River was canceled. U.S. Speedskating canceled plans to send the short-track team to China and Japan. The 16-member team (10 athletes) was scheduled to leave Saturday for World Cup meets in Changchun, China, Sept. 21-23 and in Nobeyama, Japan, Sept. 28-30. ... The Junior Grand Prix figure skating event scheduled for Scottsdale, Ariz. on Sept. 19-23 was postponed. A total of 75 skaters from 19 countries were scheduled to compete. ...
