Sandy Lyle
Before there was Faldo, Lyle was England's best-known golfer. Twice a major championship winner, Lyle was one of the most dominant players on the European Tour in the 1980s and early 1990s. He picked up his first PGA Tour win at the 1986 Greater Greensboro Open, but may be best remembered for one of the great shots in major championship lore, his approach to the 18th green on his way to winning the Masters in 1988.
