Menifee: was outrun in the early stages, found his best stride leaving the backstretch, checked in traffic on the turn, raced behind wall of horses entering the stretch, split horses to get clear in midstretch then finished fastest but could not get up.

Cat Thief: moved up between horses to contest the pace on the first turn, forced the pace outside Valhol for six furlongs, took the lead on the far turn, battled heads apart entering the stretch, continued on the front while fighting gamely into deep stretch and weakened in the final seventy yards.
