Only a turkey would put Virginia Tech in top three

Editor's note: SportsLine college football writer Dennis Dodd has taken exception with a couple of picks in SportsLine's spring Top 25. Let's just call this Dodd's rebuttal:

Virginia freakin' Tech at No. 3?! I'll grant you they have the best special teams in the country. That punt coverage unit blocks more kicks than Bruce Lee. But the Turkeys need some dressing.

How about a way to beat Miami and Syracuse? Besides, it's an unwritten rule that no Big East champion is allowed in the top five. It's a basketball conference, right You Con?

A sane individual would have left Blacksburg a long time ago. You listening Frank Beamer? You're too good to waste on the Gobs. Let me make it easy for you. After 1999, USC, Miami and Purdue, among others, will be looking for coaches. Are you interested? You better be.

Pull the rip cord while you can.

And, by the way, Nebraska is ranked too high, too. The quarterback hasn't taken a meaningful snap since September. Starting I-back DeAngelo Evans -- and we use the term "starting" loosely -- has been on the DL seemingly since his freshman year. For once, there are no Outland candidates on the offensive line.

Also consider the 'Skers have to play at Iowa, Missouri, Colorado and Texas. There's four possible losses right there. If the Men of Husk lose four again, Frank Solich should watch his back.
