The Philadelphia 76ers on Friday signed first-round draft choice Jumaine Jones from the University of Georgia to a guaranteed, three-year contract worth about $2.4 million. Agent Jimmy Sexton confirmed the signing for SportsLine and said his client received the maximum available for the 27th overall selection in the draft.

Jones, who bypassed his final two years of college eligibility, was drafted by Atlanta on June 30, then immediately traded to the Sixers for future considerations.

Jones was the leading scorer in the SEC last season, averaging 18.8 points per game. He led Georgia in rebounding, at 8.7 per contest. Originally projected to go at the middle of the first round, Jones' stock slid when pre-draft workouts revealed his ballhandling deficiencies and potential problems moving from power forward to small forward.
