Former TCU star jailed on drug charge
July 26, 1999
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Lee Nailon, a former TCU basketball star drafted by
the Charlotte Hornets this season, spent most of Sunday in jail after being
arrested on a drug charge, police said.
A detective investigating an earlier robbery at a motel on Interstate 20 said he smelled marijuana in the hall and knocked on the door of a room. Three men then jumped out a second story window and were apprehended in Nailon's custom Chevy Suburban. In addition to being charged with misdemeanor possession of two to four ounces of marijuana, the men were charged with evading arrest. That offense could be prosecuted as a felony, but officers said it would probably be charged as a misdemeanor. The three men, who all declined comment, were released Sunday after posting $1,500 bond apiece. Nailon, Charlotte's second-round pick in this year's draft, earned honorable mention All-America honors this season after being named to the third team a year earlier.
