Henderson agrees to three-year deal with Cavs
Aug. 24, 1999
CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday kept forward Cedric
Henderson on the team, signing him to three-year deal.
Cavaliers general manager Jim Paxson and Henderson's agent, Tim Jumper, disclosed no contract details other than its length and that it includes performance incentives. "We felt Cedric was someone we needed to have on the team to build with," Paxson said. "He's a quality NBA player and he's only going to get better." Jumper said other teams had expressed interest in Henderson, but that Henderson wanted to return to the Cavaliers. Henderson said he is looking forward to playing an up-tempo style under new coach Randy Wittman. "The style I like is to play up and down the floor and to maybe get some easy baskets" Henderson said. Henderson, a starter at small forward in 119 Cleveland games over the past two seasons, will have to battle for playing time with Lamond Murray, a former Los Angeles Clippers player who came to Cleveland in a trade for guard Derek Anderson and forward Johnny Newman. Shawn Kemp and recently signed free agent Mark Bryant are the power forwards.
