WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The ex-wife of an ABC cameraman allegedly pulled a gun and fired two shots at him inside Ross-Ade Stadium several hours before Purdue's football game with Wisconsin on Saturday, authorities said.

Samuel Tamez, 42, a freelance cameraman, was not injured.

"She did not accompany him here. He was rather surprised to see her here. Evidently she knew that he would be here working today," said Bob Braunlich, ABC Sports senior production executive.

Tamez, 42, wrestled the woman, Terry M. Tamez, 37, of San Antonio, to the ground and held her for university police. She was taken into custody and faces a preliminary charge of attempted murder, Purdue spokeswoman Jeanne Norberg said.

The shots from a .38-caliber revolver were fired in the north end zone.

"He was coming up from the field inside the stadium," Braunlich said. "She was up there and asked him to go out to the concourse to speak to her. There were other ABC employees who were working, and I believe at least one of them alerted the authorities something was happening.

"Luckily, because we have police officers at the ABC facility on duty, I believe someone came running up here and yelled out something was happening and the police responded immediately."

Few people were in the stadium when the shooting occurred a few minutes before noon. The game, to be televised nationally by ABC, was scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.

Norberg said Tamez told police his ex-wife had threatened him on several occasions. Braunlich said he believed the couple were involved in a dispute over child custody.

"He has met with police and we have sent him home, by his request," the ABC official said.
