Alexander, the No. 3 Cornhuskers' leading rusher, split open the palm of his right hand when he was tackled in the first quarter. He left the game for stitches after carrying five times for 29 yards, giving him 871 for the season.

Alexander, a 6-foot, 245-pound junior, returned to the sideline after halftime, without his pads and with his arm in a sling.

Alexander was the second Husker starter sidelined Saturday. All-Big 12 tight end Tracey Wistrom didn't dress for the conference title game because of a knee injury.
