will go to the Pro Bowl in place of Baltimore's Ray Lewis, who has been accused of stabbing two people to death shortly after Sunday night's Super Bowl in Atlanta.

Chargers spokesman Bill Johnston said the team was notified late Tuesday morning that Seau, the first alternate, will take Lewis' place. Seau was to fly to Honolulu on Tuesday afternoon.

Seau was snubbed in Pro Bowl voting in December, but this development extends his string to nine consecutive appearances in the game. The 10-year veteran had been voted a starter seven times.
