Mexico, Guatemala draw in Gold Cup
LOS ANGELES -- Emilio Mora scored in the first half and goalkeeper
Christian Martinez made six saves as Mexico tied Guatemala 1-1 in a Gold Cup
soccer game Thursday night.
Guatemala (0-1-1) opened the tournament with a 4-2 loss to Trinidad & Tobago and was eliminated due to Mexico's 4-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago on Sunday. Mora put Mexico ahead in the 26th minute when he deflected Francisco Palencia's cross from the right flank. Guatemala tied the score two minutes later when Erick Miranda headed Fredy Garcia's free kick just inside the left goal post. Palencia's goal in the 50th minute was waved off by an offsides call.
