Robert Chancey
and defensive end Darren Mickell signed with the San Diego Chargers on Monday.

Chancey, a restricted free agent from Dallas, signed a three-year contract while Mickell signed a one-year deal. The Cowboys chose not to exercise their right to match San Diego's offer to Chancey.

Chancey, who played with the Chargers as a rookie in 1997, joined the Cowboys on Oct. 5 and played in just one game last season. He set career highs with 14 carries for 57 yards against Green Bay on Nov. 14.

Chancey, released in training camp by Chicago last season, played in all 16 games for the Bears in 1998 with 29 carries for 122 yards and two touchdowns, with 11 receptions for 102 yards.

Mickell has played in parts of seven NFL seasons with Kansas City and New Orleans. Mickell, who has 20 career sacks, played in one game with the Saints last season. He had a career-high seven sacks and 37 tackles in 1994 for the Chiefs.
