PONTIAC, Mich. -- Veteran free safety Leomont Evans
officially traded places with Mark Carrier Monday when he signed
as a free agent with the Detroit Lions.
Terms for Evans, a starter for the Washington Redskins the last
two seasons, were not disclosed.
Evans likely will move into the role vacated by Carrier, who
left the Lions and signed a five-year, $15.9 million deal with
the Redskins during the offseason.
The 26-year-old Evans spent his first four NFL seasons in
Washington after being selected in the fifth round of the 1996
draft out of Clemson. Used primarily in a reserve role for two
seasons, Evans started 28 games over the last two seasons,
including 15 a year ago.
He has recorded 239 tackles and three interceptions in his
career and was fourth on the team with 98 tackles last season.
