SINGAPORE -- A goal seven minutes from times gave Kyrgyzstan a surprise 1-0 win over Singapore in an Asian World Cup qualifier on Saturday.

Ilia Kovalenko headed home from an 83rd minute free kick to put Kyrgyzstan into second place in the Asian zone preliminary group four standings behind Kuwait, who defeated Bahrain earlier in the evening.

The game was scoreless at halftime despite Singapore's dominance. The hosts had a Zulkarnaen Zainal goal disallowed in the 56th minute because the ball was adjudged to have gone out of play in the build-up.
