Bahrain edges Kyrgyzstan 1-0 in qualifier

SINGAPORE -- Mohd Noh Alam Shah scored in the 85th minute as Singapore tied Kuwait 1-1 Tuesday night in an Asian World Cup qualifier played during a monsoon downpour.

Kuwait, the favorite to win the group and advance to the 10-nation Asian finals, went ahead in the 61st minute when Bashar Abdulaziz scored off a pass from Naser Alothman.

In the opener of the doubleheader, Yusuf A'Amer Al Sadi headed in a pass from Sayed Mahmood Jalal in the 86th minute to lead Bahrain over Kyrgyzstan 1-0.

Kuwait (1-0-1) leads Asia Group Four with four points, one ahead of Bahrain and Krygystan (both 1-1). Singapore (0-1-1) is last with one point.

On Friday, Kyrgyzstan plays Kuwait and Bahrain plays Singapore. The second half of the double round-robin will be played at Kuwait from Feb. 21-27.
