Sun Belt tourney: Western Kentucky, South Alabama roll into semis

MOBILE, Ala. -- Chris Marcus hit 8-of-12 shots from the field and scored 22 points as Western Kentucky defeated Florida International 68-51 in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Saturday night.

Marcus also had 14 rebounds for the Hilltoppers (22-6). Nashon McPherson added 12 points for Western Kentucky.

Western Kentucky led 28-23 lead at halftime and shot 52 percent from the field in the second half to stretch the lead.

Carlos Arroyo scored 24 points to lead Florida International (8-21). Game summary

South Alabama 85, Ark.-Little Rock 62

Center Virgil Stanescu scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds as South Alabama defeated Arkansas-Little Rock in the Sun Belt quarterfinals.

South Alabama (21-9) never trailed in advancing to Monday's semifinals. The Jaguars led by as many as 19 points in the first half and were ahead 40-30 at halftime. The Trojans cut the lead to 42-38 with 15:55 to play, but South Alabama went on a 13-2 run in the next three minutes.

Brett Gravitt added 14 points for the Jaguars, while Henry Williams had 13 and Emmett Thomas chipped in 11.

Nick Zachery had 19 points for Arkansas-Little Rock. Stan Blackmon added 14 and Alan Barksdale had 11.
