ALBUFEIRA, Portugal -- The U.S. women's team, fielding one of the youngest lineups in its history, lost 2-0 Thursday to Sweden in the final game of the opening round of the Algarve Cup.

It was the second defeat in three games of the round-robin portion of the prestigious tournament. The Americans previously beat Portugal and lost to Canada.

Sweden (3-0) scored on its first shot of the match, Tina Nordlund connecting in the 39th minute. Hanna Llungberg scored Sweden's second goal in the 72nd minute, volleying home from close range after a Swedish shot rang off the crossbar.

Nearly all of the United States' best women players are preparing for the debut of the WUSA league in April.
