Twins Michal and Marcin Zewlakow scored a goal each to power Poland to a 4-0 win over over Armenia in their World Cup qualifier on Wednesday.
Defender Michal Zewlakow, who with his brother plays for Belgium's Excelsior Mouscron, scored from the penalty spot in the 15th minute. Just before halftime his free kick was headed home by Polish prospect Emmanuel Olisadebe.
The Nigerian-born striker has scored seven times in eight internationals since become a Polish citizen last year and is one of the reasons why Poland lead European group five with 13 points from five qualifiers.
In the 81st minute, substitute Marcin Zewlakow tapped in a free kick from playmaker Piotr Swierczewski and Bartosz Karwan finished the scoring two minutes from time.
Poland picked up three yellow cards during the match and will miss Swierczewski and fellow midfielder Radoslaw Kaluzny for their next qualifier in Wales.
Vasilyuk's late goal lifts Belarus past Norway
MINSK -- A last minute goal from Roman
Vasilyuk gave Belarus a 2-1 win over Norway in their World Cup
qualifier on Wednesday.
The victory lifts Belarus to second in group five on 10
points after five games, and leaves Norway with little hope of
advancing to next year's finals as they remain rooted to the
bottom of the standings on two points.
Poland lead the group on 13 points after five matches.
Dynamo Kiev midfielder Alexander Khatskevich put the home
side ahead after 19 minutes, getting on to the end of a cross
from Kiev team mate Valentin Belkevich to head into the top
left-hand corner of Thomas Myrhe's net.
Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hauled Norway
back into the game with a headed equaliser on 68 minutes, before
Vasilyuk's late intervention sealed the points for the home
side.
Wales and Ukraine lose ground after 1-1 tie
CARDIFF -- Wales and Ukraine lost
valuable ground in World Cup European qualifying group five when
they drew 1-1 at the Millennium Stadium on Wednesday.
Wales took the lead after 11 minutes when John Hartson
smashed the ball into the net from 12 metres, his third goal in
two games after his double against Armenia on Saturday.
But Ukraine looked the more dangerous side throughout and
deservedly earned a point when AC Milan striker Andriy
Shevchenko tapped home his fifth goal of the campaign after 52
minutes.
Ukraine slipped to third in the group with eight points, two
behind second-placed Belarus and five adrift of leaders Poland.
Wales are fourth with four points and no wins from their
five games.
