GLASGOW -- Captain Colin Hendry struck
twice to steer Scotland to a 4-0 victory over San Marino and top
spot in World Cup European group six on Wednesday.
The central defender marked his 51st cap by firing in two
fierce first-half shots, before further goals from Billy Dodds
and Colin Cameron sealed the win which gave Scotland 11 points
from five games.
The Scots replaced Belgium at the top but the Belgians have
a game in hand.
Hendry broke the deadlock after 22 minutes after Matt
Elliott's header had come back off the post, allowing Hendry to
curl in a shot from 10 metres.
Ten minutes later Hendry made it 2-0, when he met Craig
Burley's corner and thrashed a right-foot shot in from 18
metres.
Less than a minute later, Dodds made it 3-0 with a diving
header from Don Hutchison's cross. However, the Scots could add
only one more in the second half, when Cameron scored with a
right foot shot from 10 metres in the 64th minute
