BANGALORE, India -- Yemen held India to a 1-1 draw in a World Cup Asian zone qualifier on Sunday to remain top of group eight.

Striker Abdul Ghaleb Al-Qurbani gave Yemen a lead their first half superiority deserved by volleying home two minutes before the break.

India equalised on 53 minutes with a header from Bhaichung Bhutia, who plays for English second division side Bury.

India, who beat group favourites United Arab Emirates 1-0 last Sunday, hit the woodwork twice but were otherwise thwarted by a well-organised Yemen defence.

Both teams have four points from two games, with Yemen, who beat Brunei Darussalam 5-0 in their opening game, on top with a better goal difference.

United Arab Emirates, who thrashed Brunei 12-0 on Saturday, are third with three points.
