STAMFORD, Conn. -- Los Angeles Xtreme quarterback Tommy Maddox was picked as the XFL's inaugural player of the year Wednesday.

The former UCLA star, who had three stints in the NFL, led the XFL with 2,186 passing yards and 18 touchdown passes. The Xtreme won the Western Division championship and play the San Francisco Demons Saturday for the league title in the Million Dollar Game.

Maddox was the only XFL quarterback to start all 10 regular season games and threw at least one TD pass in eight of them. He earned weekly player honors in Week 7 when he threw for two scores and rushed for another in the Xtreme's 31-6 win over previously unbeaten Orlando.

He played in the NFL with the New York Giants and Atlanta.
