STAMFORD, Conn. -- Galen Hall of the Orlando Rage was chosen as the XFL's inaugural Coach of the Year on Thursday.

The former University of Florida coach led the Rage to a league-best 8-2 regular-season record. Orlando won the Eastern Division title by three games, despite losing starting quarterback Jeff Brohm to a shoulder injury in the seventh week.

The Rage's season ended in the semifinals in a 26-25 loss last Saturday to the San Francisco Demons. San Francisco plays the Los Angeles Xtreme on Saturday for the league title.

"I've very honored with the award, but we still came up short," Hall said from Orlando.

Hall coached in NFL Europe and led the Rhein Fire to two league titles in the past three years. He also coached at Florida from 1984-1989, and was The Associated Press Coach of the Year in 1984.
