YAOUNDE -- Cameroon made it five wins in
five matches and took another big stride towards the 2002 World
Cup finals when they beat Libya 1-0 with a controversial penalty
on Sunday.
The Radio Cameroon commentator said the penalty awarded
against a Libyan defender for bringing down Geremi Njitap in the
77th minute was "imaginary".
Laurent Etame Mayer scored from the spot without difficulty
but the home team were booed during the match for a lacklustre
performance.
Cameroon have 15 points and are now seven points ahead of
nearest challengers Angola with three matches to come for both
teams in the African zone group A qualifying series.
Angola drew 1-1 with Zambia in Lusaka on Saturday. They are
at home to Cameroon in the next round of matches between May 4
and 6.
Zambia are third in the group with seven points. Libya are
bottom with just one point from five games, one point behind
Togo who have played one game fewer.
