ABIDJAN -- Ivory Coast beat Congo 2-0 on
Sunday to join Tunisia at the top of their group in the African
zone World Cup qualifiers.
Kader Keita and Ibrahima Bakayoko scored the Ivory Coast
goals, one in each half.
Ivory Coast began strongly on their home ground but the
Congolese put up a spirited attempt to contain them to the
midfield.
Keita scored the first goal with a header in the 31st
minute. The home team missed a penalty in the 71st minute but
Bakayoko took a pass from Kony Ibrahim to net the second four
minutes from the end.
Tunisia and Ivory Coast lead group D with 10 points from
four matches. Tunisia have the better goal difference.
Congo have lost all their three matches so far and are
bottom of the group behind Madagascar and Democratic Republic of
Congo, who each have three points.
