NEW YORK -- Midfielder-forward Chris Brown, who had two
goals and an assist to help the Kansas City Wizards post two
victories, was selected MLS Player of the Week for the period
ending Sunday.
Brown scored the game-tying goal in Wednesday's 2-1
come-from-behind victory over previously unbeaten Miami. He
also had a goal and helped set up another as the Wizards rolled
to their third win in eight days, a 3-0 blanking of the Columbus
Crew.
The University of Portland product has scored a goal in each of
the last three games after collecting just four in 50 games over
the past two seasons.
"It shows that players that make the most of their opportunities
get rewarded for their hard work," Brown said. "Most
importantly is that the Wizards won both games and six points
last week and I was one of 13-14 players on the team that helped
out."
Brown is tied for second place on the 2001 MLS scoring list with
seven points. He also leads 2000 MLS Champion Kansas in goals,
points, shots (9) and shots-on-goal (5).
