PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad -- A 61st minute goal by midfielder Pavel Pardo earned Mexico a 1-1 draw with Trinidad and Tobago in a tense CONCACAF World Cup qualifier at the Queen's Park Oval on Wednesday.

An estimated crowd of around 15,000 produced wild scenes of celebration in the 14th minute when defender Marvin Andrews climbed above the Mexican defence to head home an Angus Eve corner and give the home team the lead.

But the rest of the half was a lack-lustre affair as the Mexicans tried to come to grips with a hard, bouncy pitch while Trinidad rested on their one-goal advantage.

Trinidad's Eve was sent off by Kuwait referee Kameel Saad Mane for a deliberate off-the-ball foul on Francisco Palencia in the 35th minute.

The Mexicans introduced Jesus Arellano in place of German Villa at the start of the second half and were rewarded when the substitute set up the equaliser for Pardo, whose 22-yard shot beat goalkeeper Clayton Ince.

The goal brought the visitors to life and they went on the attack, introducing Jared Borguetti in place of Francisco Palencia in the 55th minute.

Borguetti, who scored twice in Mexico's 4-0 win against Jamaica in their last game, had two opportunities to give his team victory.

In the 78th minute his shot from inside the six-yard box went wide and a minute later he opted to pass when clear but Pardo shot wide.

Trinidad and Tobago's best chance to win the game came when Dwight Yorke missed the target in the 87th minute following a one-two with skipper Russell Latapy.

The Mexicans were also reduced to 10 men when defender Rafael Marquez was red-carded in the 75th minute for a second bookable offence.

The result left Mexico with four points and Trinidad with one point after three games.

Mexico will meet Costa Rica in their next game on June 16 while Trinidad travel to Honduras the same day.
