FREETOWN -- Sierra Leone managed a late equaliser to draw 1-1 at home to Ghana on Saturday in a match between two teams at the bottom of their World Cup qualifying group.

Sierra Leone, who produced a major upset when they beat Nigeria 1-0 for their first points in African zone qualifying group B two weeks earlier, went behind after 26 minutes when a defensive error allowed Ghana's Quami Ayu to score from close range.

Sierra Leone, cheered on by a vocal crowd of 25,000, came back after the break but had to wait until five minutes from the end for their equaliser.

John Kister was fouled in the penalty area and Alpha Joh converted the spot-kick.

The draw took Ghana to five points from five matches and Sierra Leone to four points from six matches.

Liberia lead the group with 12 points from six games despite losing 2-0 away to Nigeria on Saturday. Nigeria are second with 10 points and Sudan, who have a game in hand, third with nine.
