PHNOM PENH -- Indonesia quickly regained the
lead of their World Cup qualifying group from China with a 2-0
away win over the Maldives on Sunday.
China had gone top of Asia zone group nine on goal
difference after crushing Cambodia 4-0 in Pnomh Penh earlier in
the day.
But Indonesia, who have played a game more than China, made
it four out of four wins with a comfortable win in Male.
Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto opened the scoring in the 10th minute
before Ismed Sofyan wrapped up victory with a goal five minutes
after the turnaround.
In Cambodia, Li Jin Yu scored twice as China recorded their
third straight win in the group.
Cambodia are bottom of the four-team table with one point
from five games, three adrift of the Maldives who have played a
game more.
Li Jin Yu opened the scoring in the fifth minute and wrapped
up victory when he struck China's fourth goal in the 63rd minute.
Qu Bo scored China's second shortly before the interval and
Ma Mingyu scored another in the 58th minute.
Cambodia coach Joachim Fickert criticised the attitude of
his players in the match, saying: "We had some players today
that didn't bring 100 percent. They had problems in their heads.
"They need more power, more fight, more spirit."
But Fickert said the match may have been a good experience
for some of the team.
"It was a good lesson for our young players and we will keep
the video and we will see this several times in the future," he
added.
