Lebanon and Thailand win and keep pace

BEIRUT, Lebanon -- Lebanon beat Sri Lanka 4-0 and Thailand defeated Pakistan 3-0 Tuesday, both improving to 2-0 in qualifying for next year's World Cup.

Lebanon leads Asia Group Five over Thailand on goal difference, plus 10 to plus five. Lebanon and Thailand play Thursday in Beirut and on May 30 in Bangkok.

Rida Antar scored for Lebanon in the 44th and 62nd minutes, Moussa Hjeij scored in the 65th and Mohammed Kassas scored in the 89th.

Thailand got two goals from Sakesan Pituratana (34th and 52nd minutes) and one from Therdsak Chaiman (85th minute).

Sri Lanka and Pakistan are both 0-2.

The group winner joins Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan in the 10-nation Asian finals, which will produce two qualifiers for next year's tournament in Japan and South Korea.
