NEW YORK -- Brazilian midfielder Cate was named MLS
player of the week for the period ending Sunday, May 20, after helping
the New England Revolution post three consecutive wins.
Cate became the first Revolution player to earn the award this
year.
The diminutive Brazilian scored both goals in a 2-1 victory over
the Columbus Crew last Wednesday. He also set up the goal off a
penalty kick in a 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday.
The 5-foot-9 Cate leads the Revolution with seven points (three
goals, one assists).
Cate, who joined New England on April 10, was a member of the
1993 Brazil championship team in the FIFA World Youth tournament
in Australia. He also has played for Sao Paolo, Flamengo and
Sampdoria (Italy).
New England has recovered from a dismal 0-6 start to gain nine
points in its current win streak.
