Argentina extends lead in South America group

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- Argentina scored three times in the first half Sunday to beat Colombia 3-0 in a World Cup qualifier and increase its lead in its South American group.

Kily Gonzalez scored in the 22nd minute, Claudio Lopez in the 35th and Hernan Crespo in the 38th.

Argentina leads the 10-team group by six points. Colombia remains in fifth place. Later Sunday, last-place Venezuela was at ninth-place Bolivia.

The top four teams in South America advance to the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan. The fifth-place team will play the winner of the Oceania group for another spot.
