NEW YORK -- Forward Alex Pineda Chacon became the third
straight player from the red-hot Miami Fusion to be named MLS
player of the week.
Pineda Chacon is the first two-time honoree this season
after capturing the award on April 9 after the season's opening
weekend.
Teammates Diego Serna and goalkeeper Nick Rimando received the
honor over the past two weeks.
Pineda Chacon, a Honduran international, scored twice and added
three assists in Miami's 5-1 victory over reigning MLS champion
Kansas City at Lockhart Stadium on Saturday. The victory extended
the Fusion's winning streak to six matches and improved their
league-best record to 10-1-1, including a perfect 6-0-0 home
mark.
Pineda Chacon's seven-point match moved him to second place in
the MLS scoring race, trailing teammate Serna by three points.
The striker has collected 20 points on eight goals and four
assists.
Pineda Chacon joined the Fusion during the offseason from Club
Olimpia Deportivo, where he won six Honduran League titles.
